A WILDLIFE charity that opposes culling badgers to stop bovine TB is firmly backing a campaign to raise awareness about Defra's consultation on the disease.

Secret World, based in East Huntspill, supports the Badger Protection League's independent website to make people aware of the consultation on bovine TB in cattle.

It said people need to reply to the consultation otherwise badgers in England will be culled from May.

Many wildlife groups are uniting to show the strength of feeling against the action.

Secret World founder Pauline Kidner, who has worked with badgers for more than 20 years, said: "We're hoping that by joining together we will send a clear message to the Government that we will do everything within our power to stop this from happening.

"People need to know the futility of what has been suggested and that thousands of badgers will be killed for nothing more than to fulfil a campaigning promise by a coalition Government that have turned their back on science."

At a meeting at the Zoological Society of London just weeks ago, scientists and ecologists pointed out the proposed cull is flawed and that the science was misrepresented.

This message is supported by celebrities including Brian May, Sir David Attenborough, Joanna Lumley, Alan Titchmarsh, Simon King, Chris Packham, Michaela Strachan, Tony Head and Jilly Cooper.
