Wild West tale thrills
A Wells man is celebrating the release of his first novel, which he has published himself.
Matt Halloway's Under a Blood Red Sky has been published for the Kindle and in paperback through Amazon.
A tale of revenge set in the American Old West with supernatural undertones, it tells the story of Joshua Weaver and Tobias Miller, two childhood friends whose friendship was torn apart by love and war.
One is now a lawman tasked with bringing the other to justice. A violent chase ensues under the harsh desert sky leading to a dramatic conclusion.

Matt said: "I've always loved Westerns, The Wild Bunch and Butch Cassidy and the Sundance Kid being a couple of favourites. But they're not popular according to agents and publishers.
"Rather than keep pushing at a closed door, I discovered I could self-publish through Amazon and thought, why not? To me a story doesn't truly come to life until it is read. Without readers a story could just as well be a shopping list and I didn't want years of work to result in a 250-page shopping list buried in a bottom drawer.
"More than that, self-publishing allows me complete creative freedom, without my boundaries being limited by marketing and sales teams.
"I'm in charge of the content, the cover design, the marketing, the pricing and when the book is published. I might not be as successful, but what I publish will be a lot more honest, and won't be getting published just to cash in on the latest publishing fad."
Matt plans to return to the characters in Under a Blood Red Sky in the future, those that are still standing, but for now is working on a crime thriller set in 1950s Arizona, No Distance Left to Run, which will be published in the spring.
