Widow's fury at engagement ring theft

A pensioner from Holwell, near Nunney, is appealing for her engagement ring to be returned after it was stolen in a burglary at her home.

Bette Bullus, who has lived in her cottage for 23 years, was out with her nephew shopping and only discovered the theft when she went upstairs.

Mrs Bullus said: "I thought my son had been in but when I went upstairs to my bedroom, I discovered all my jewellery was strewn across the bed."

Mrs Bullus said she came downstairs and saw her television was missing and also an electric keyboard. The thieves had got in through a patio door at the back, using a brick to smash the glass.

Mrs Bullus said she wants her engagement ring to be returned.

The great grandmother-of-eight said: "I'm not scared easy, I am more angry than anything.

"That ring was given to me by my late husband, Robin, and means the world to me. It holds no monetary value, but sentimentally it is worth so much."

The couple were married for 54 years, after getting engaged at the age of 17.

Mrs Bullus, who has raised thousands of pounds for charity over the years, said: "Robin and I met when I was 14 years old.

"We got engaged when I was 17 and married at 18."

The ring is a square emerald surrounded by diamonds, with a gold band. Two other rings were taken, an eternity ring and a dress ring.
