CLEVEDON United 2006 have signed 16-year-old Josh White from Bridgwater Town.

White is a promising young centre-back who is currently undergoing England trials and he has attracted the interest of a number of clubs, who are closely monitoring his career progress.

United Manager Alan Smith hopes to incorporate him into the set-up as soon as possible and sees him as a welcome addition to the squad.

CLEVEDON UNITED 2006 5 BRIDPORT FC 0

UNITED responded well to their shock midweek home defeat with an inspiring performance against Bridport.

Top scorer Sam Clark struck the crossbar with a fine shot from 25 yards after only two minutes and there followed a long period where both sides played attractive passing football, with both goalkeepers having to make excellent saves.

The teams started the second half all square but that was all about to change. After 50 minutes, centre-back Sam Johnson brought the ball unchallenged out of the United defence and played a through ball to skipper Ryan King, who took it in his stride to convert a low left-foot shot.

Bridport responded and Chris Senior found himself on the end of an excellent cross from the right but missed from three yards out when it seemed easier to hit the target.

United took advantage of the miss and one minute later Clark pounced on a goalmouth skirmish and put the home side two up.

Two minutes later, Ryan King's firm infield pass forced Chris Clarke to swing at the ball, which only saw it deflect over his own keeper's head to make it 3-0.

Five minutes later it was 4-0 after Adam Grinter was pushed in the back by Senior and King converted the penalty.

The final goal came five minutes from time when Leigh White and Adam Grinter combined for Greg Andrews to slot home.

The Kenny Group man of the match was King.

United's next home game at The Hand is on Wednesday 17 March against Cadbury Heath (7.45pm).

CLEVEDON UNITED 2006 1 DEVIZES TOWN 2

AFTER only five minutes the visitors' intentions were clear when the United defenders allowed a long central ball to penetrate the back four and Terry Moore's attempted lob cleared the Clevedon crossbar.

Clevedon began to settle and had a period of good possession, with the lively Sam Clark forcing a save from keeper Darryl Simms.

On 30 minutes United fell behind to a freak goal when Ray King's cross struck the legs of Matt Fisher and deflected past Ben Dancey in goal.

United equalised after 39 minutes when skipper Ryan King's cross was initially held by Darryl Simms but dropped at the feet of Leigh White to convert the mistake.

Two minutes later, however, Jake Roberts picked up a loose ball in midfield and rifled his shot into the roof of the United net.

United reverted to their traditional passing style and dominated the second half, Wes Wilson having two good attempts well saved by Simms as the visitors held on.

Gordano Carpets man of the match was Sam Johnson.

WORLE RES 0 CLEVEDON UNITED A 3

CLEVEDON maintained their pursuit of promotion with a comfortable victory at Worle.

Two goals from Max James and one from strike partner Mike Banks secured the points, but the goal tally could have been doubled.

Stuart Pickles forced a good early save before Max James opened the scoring when he got on the end of Allan Finnie's ball over the top before shrugging off his marker and firing into the bottom corner.

United spurned several golden chances to add to their lead before Matt Foster set up Mike Banks to score the second.

United sealed the win when Chris Wall picked out Banks on the right and his first time pass found James, who smashed home his second.

BERROW RES 5 CLEVEDON UTD B 1

A WOEFUL performance in the first half saw United go in at the break 4-0 down, with only Luke Rowlands and Andy Lester having half-chances for the visitors.

Ben Shipway and Craig Manson come off the bench and United took the game to Berrow and dominated the second half.

Shipway, Teall, Manson and Rowlands all went close before Nick Baker scored after a goalmouth scramble.

Berrow got a fifth but United's second-half performance was a lot better. One bright note was the introduction of young Spud Blackall, who again looked sharp.
