Weston-super-Mare are back up to sixth spot in the Blue Square Bet South thanks to a 1-0 win at Bromley - their first win in five visits to Hayes Lane.

This was a morale-boosting victory following two straight losses and put them back just outside the play-off zone, on goal difference.

The opening half was dominated by both defences, with little goalmouth activity.

Weston’s Jamie Price tested home goalkeeper Joe Welch on eight minutes with a header from Martin Slocombe’s free-kick and Nabi Diallo put another effort over.

For Bromley, leading scorer Louie Theophanous went close, as did Danny Waldron, twice, from corners.

The only goal came on 51 minutes when Diallo controlled a pass out of defence on the halfway line, sprinted to the edge of the Bromley penalty area and passed to Ashley Kington, who beat Welch low to his right.

Near the end, for Bromley, Moses Swaibu squandered a great opportunity from a free-kick and substitute Ian Daly had an equaliser ruled out as a cross from Sanchez Ming was deemed to have gone behind.

In added time, Theophanous forced the only save from Weston goalkeeper Lloyd Irish.

Salisbury’s match at Boreham Wood was postponed.

The Whites are due to return to action at Farnborough tomorrow (7.45pm).

Gloucester City’s Blue Square Bet North game at Boston was also called off.
