Craig Laird sees no reason why Weston-super-Mare cannot reverse the formbook and knock Salisbury City out of the FA Trophy tomorrow.

Top of the Blue Square South table and short-priced favourites to return to the top-flight, Salisbury will be expected to pull rank on the Seagulls in a third-qualifying round tie at the Raymond McEnhill Stadium.

But recent results in the FA Cup will encourage Weston manager Laird and his players to believe they have a chance.

Laird said: “If Dorchester can beat Plymouth Argyle and Yate Town can beat Newport in the FA Cup, then there is no reason why we cannot win at Salisbury.

“Upsets happen all the time and my players have every right to fancy their chances and look forward to this match.

“Salisbury have set out their stall to win promotion back to the Blue Square Premier and the Trophy is probably not going to be a priority for them.

“Playing the top-of-the-table side represents a challenge for my players and I’m sure they will be up for it.”

First-team regulars Matt Villis, Ben Kirk, Chas Hemmings, Kane Ingram and Ross Stearn all return after sitting out Tuesday’s 4-3 Somerset Premier Cup defeat at the hands of Frome.

Laird also includes new signings Mark Cooper, a right-back from Newport County, and Josh Egan, a striker from Chippenham, in the squad.
