Weston-super-Mare Grand Pier Half Marathon organisers hope to top 1,000 runners
Hundreds of people have signed up to take part in the first half marathon to be held in Weston-super-Mare for the last 20 years.
More than 500 people have already booked their place for the Grand Pier Half Marathon on September 23.
The Grand Pier has teamed up with events company Freak Events to stage the run, with people from London, Nottingham and Aylesbury signing up to enter.
The 13.1 mile race will start on the Grand Pier and will continue up the promenade to Uphill, back via the pier, down to the Marine Lake and onto the Toll Road.

Two laps of the course will equal 13.1 miles and the route is entirely on roads or tarmac. Each runner can choose to support one of seven nominated charities which are Asthma UK, British Heart Foundation, Help for Heroes, RNLI Lifeboats, Children’s Hospice South West, Bone Cancer Research Trust and Weston Hospicecare Race entry includes a Grand Pier Half Marathon T-shirt and a goodie bag.
There is an overall male and female winner’s prize of £500, plus prizes for the top runners in categories including under 21, 40 plus, 50+ and 60+.
Freak Events spokesman Jarad Collard said: “I am overwhelmed by the number of entries we have had so far and I think we will be able to top the 1,000 mark before September.”
