Plans to create a Sainsbury's supermarket in Westfield have today been unanimously rejected by Bath and North East Somerset Council's planning committee.

The supermarket giant was hoping to transform the current CFH factory at St Peter's Park, off Wells Road in Westfield into a 54,000 sq ft superstore but was turned down by councillors sitting on the council's development control committee this afternoon (Wednesday, March 13).

CFH, which employs around 200 people from the local area, had hoped the development would be given the green light which would have enabled the business to sell its existing factory to move into new custom-built premises.

Concerns focused on the impact the store could have on neighbouring shopping areas.
