Westcountry Game Fair in Somerset attracts thousands of visitors
Thousands of people flocked to the Westcountry Game Fair from across the South West today as the Bath and West Showground, near Shepton Mallet, Somerset, hosted the first major event of its kind this year.
The Game Fair, an annual celebration of shooting, fishing and country life, is expected to attract around 20,000 visitors today and on Sunday, many from Devon and Cornwall.

Fly fishing expert Charles Jardine was among the first of the show's experts to demonstrate his skills in the indoor arena with Cornish countryman and wildfowler Chris Green and falconer Terry Large putting on displays in the outdoor arena.
The Westcountry Game Fair, now in its 18th year, includes some 270 trade stands dealing in everthing from local food and drink to shotguns and fishing rods. Lisa Scattergood, from organisers Contour, said there had been queues to get in as the fair opened at 9am and, despite the economic difficulties, traders were hopeful of a profitable couple of days.
