West Country Game Fair pulls in thousands of country fans
Country sports fans get up early – after all, they need to get the bird that itself got up early to get the worm.
So they were queuing at the gates of the Bath and West Showground in Somerset before 9am on Saturday for the two-day West Country Game Fair – an annual celebration of shooting, fishing, hunting and the rural way of life.

Lisa Scattergood, of organisers Contour, said by closing time yesterday, around 20,000 would have attended the fair, the first of the UK’s regional country sports shows. She said: “It’s going very well. The traders seem very happy. Many are asking for the same pitch next year, which is a good sign.”
Top names from the world of shooting, fishing and falconry, demonstrated their skills at the show.
