Wells man's London Marathon challenge
HAVE you seen this man? Probably not – although you may have seen a purple blur as he speeds past you down Wells High Street, or around Dulcote or even being chased by cows along the palace fields.
It’s Wells resident Alan Hudson in training for the London Marathon next April.
Alan ran the London Marathon in 1984 so this will be his 30th anniversary.
He said: “I was very unfit when I started training for the 1984 marathon and did it in four hours 38 minutes.

“Living in Somerset for the last 20 years seems to have made me put on quite a lot of extra weight – too much cider and honey.
“So it seemed a good idea to run the marathon again and lose some fat.”
It’s not just to get in shape that Alan is taking on the 26 mile run, he’s also raising money for a good cause.
That’s the Lymphoma Association, which is a cause close to his heart.
Alan said: “A friend contracted Lymphoma last year, but is doing well and I’m bullying him into running with me maybe in the 2015 marathon.”
The training is hard work and after a recent run he said: “My legs hurt.
“Everything hurts and I’m chaffing in very strange places.”
You can help Alan raise cash and give him the motivation to keep on chaffing by going to www.justgiving.com/Alans2014Marathon or you can stop him with a donation while he’s running – but you’ll have to shout over the music from his iPod.
