Wells juniors keep pace in title charge
Wells City Harriers maintained their charge for the Gwent Cross-Country League's best junior club title in when their athletes were in action at the fourth meeting of the series in Brecon.
More than 30 club members travelled to the event on Saturday, with six top-three finishes recorded by the club's juniors.

The novice boys got proceedings under way, where Luke Baker found a good turn of speed in a sprint finish for second place, with Chris Ellis not far behind in tenth. Rachel Packard was the only novice girl in action, finishing 19th.
James Bridge edged out team-mate Oliver Dickinson for second place in the under-13 boys' race, while Johnny Ellis had another good run in 20th. Amy D'Arcy was the Harriers' only under-13 girl representative, finishing 13th.
There were top three finishes in both the girls' and boys' under-15 races. Sam Somerville showed his form for third place in the boys' event, a position matched by Charlotte Baker in the girls' race.
Luke Prior was sixth in the boys' race, while Mark Bailey finished 11th. Annabel Arnold was seventh of the girls, just ahead of Abigail Gibbons in tenth.
Matthew Dickinson, Philip Bridge and Matt Cole all ran well to come in second, sixth and 12th respectively in the combined under-17/under-20 race. Rebecca Carver and Lilly Hawkins were sixth and tenth in the girls' equivalent contest.
The club's senior ladies produced one of the best turnouts of the season in their race, with five Harriers in action. Katrina Prior led them home in 25th, followed by Sam Baker in 60th, Tracey Holliday in 69th, Claire Thomas in 85th and Catherine Goldsmid in 107th.
Prior now stands third overall in the F35 category after four fixtures, with just one at Blaise Castle, Bristol, on March 3 remaining.
The final race of the day saw eight senior men in action, where Jack Bancroft led the charge in 11th place. Nick Somerville placed 39th, Steve Masters 64th, Graham Goldsmid 104th, Simon Arnold 113th, Geoff Cole 122nd, Rex Whitcombe 157th, Adrian Bridge 176th and Steve Dickinson 200th.
Masters' performance moved him up to third place overall in the V50 category.
Meanwhile, at last week's Street 5k race, Emily Smith won the ladies' event in a personal best of 18mins 41secs, while there was also a new best for third-placed Lucy Baldwin in 19:49.
The overall winner on the night was Shepton Mallet's Kieran Young, who also recorded a new best. The final Street race of the season will be held on Wednesday, March 14.
The first of the Harriers- supported local races in 2012 takes place on Sunday, February 26, with the staging of the Babcary Road race.
