Wells Colts continue winning run with Winscombe victory
Wells Colts 38 Winscombe U17 7
Wells Colts maintained their winning run with a comfortable victory in a friendly against Winscombe under-17s at Wells Blue School on Sunday.
The Colts team was mainly made up of under-17 players, with four of the club's under-16s squad also involved.
After a slow start, Wells got on the scoresheet with a try from captain Will Greenman, followed quickly by another from Tavish Papadopoulos after he benefited from a defensive error on the line. Oscar Townend's conversion secured a 12-point lead.
Winscombe came back with a converted try to bring the teams within five points and the rest of the first half was evenly matched.
The half-time dressing down from the Wells Colts coach, directed mainly at the forwards, produced a vast improvement in structured play, resulting in tries for the forwards and backs.
Townend went over after a nimble run by Tavish and a skilful offload by Mason Brook, while Cameron Davidson, Scott Mullins and the hard-working Jack Harris also crossed the whitewash for Wells.
Three conversions made the final score 38-7.
