Wells' Christmas cracker ends in rare draw
Clevedon B 5 Wells A 5
Wells Tennis Club's A team's final fixture before Christmas ended in a rare draw during a pulsating match at Clevedon.
Playing on the unfamiliar Astroturf, Wells included Julie Kinsey for the first time this season and, alongside Gary Moule, the duo quickly grew to appreciate each other's strengths as they secured a 6-2, 6-2 win.
Andrzej Piecuch and Vicky Flicker were up against the strong Clevedon number one pairing and, despite Wells doing well in the first set, the visiting duo eventually went down 6-4, 6-1.
Flicker and Kinsey then played well to gain a straight-sets win in the ladies' match, triumphing 6-3, 6-2.
Moule and Piecuch struggled against the skilful play of the Clevedon men, however, and Wells went down 6-3, 6-1.
After several lengthy calculations, the teams were tied on the same number of match wins, the same number of set wins and the same number of game wins, meaning the contest ended in rare draw.
Having recorded several victories during the first half of the season, while also enjoying several other close matches, Wells' A side can look forward to the second half of the campaign confident of retaining their place in Division 2.
