Wells ABC reopens with surprise visit from MP Tessa Munt
A surprise visit from MP Tessa Munt got Wells Amateur Boxing Club's new season under way last week.
Under the guidance of top amateur coaches Liam White and Clive Gadd, more than 50 boxers were at the club last Friday for the first session of the winter, including several new faces.
MP for Wells Ms Munt was highly impressed by the talent on show at the session and how competitive the young fighters were.
"I am completely amazed with what I have seen here," she said. "The amount of young children and adults at the club is truly amazing. I find it quite brilliant.

"I also find it quite interesting that some of these youngsters have been boxing for years and yet others have come along for the first time tonight and want to get into it straight away.
"To channel their energy in such a way is fantastic and the number of women and girls at the club is absolutely amazing.
"The club is run so well by all the coaches, it really is quite remarkable. These young kids and adults appear to be so fit and they deserve all the support they are getting.
"I had heard of the club before but I had no idea where it was. Now I have seen what it is like, it is a place where I would like to come again and give my support to all these young boxers to see how they have performed in a few months' time.
"I am genuinely excited about this club and how well it is organised and run. It deserves to be very successful."
The return of Kevin White will strengthen the club this season, with the city's young fighters sure to benefit from his successful career in the ring.
White was ranked among the top three light middleweights in Europe in the 1970s and fought Larry Paul for the British and Commonwealth titles in 1974, losing on points after 15 rounds in Wolverhampton.
Both Liam and Kevin White were part of Great Britain's Olympic boxing squads for the Munich Olympics in 1972, while Gadd fought in the ABA finals.
Shane White, who only recently retired from the professional ring himself, and ladies' coach Nickie Pidgeon complete the club's coaching set-up.
Anyone interested in joining the club can attend training on Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays from 6pm at the Cold Store off Rowdens Road.
