Way to go for coach who played major role in loan
MIDFIELDER Owain Tudur Jones has revealed his friendship with technical coach Darren Way was pivotal to him ever joining Yeovil Town.
The Norwich City man is currently enjoying a second loan spell at Huish Park, first switching last season.
Tudur Jones first met Way at Swansea City, the club that handed the Wales international his chance in the professional game aged 21.
Upon his release from the Liberty Stadium in the summer of 2009 he joined the Canaries, but has seen chances limited and made even harder by their promotion to the npower Championship.
Yeovil boss Terry Skiverton has long been admirer of Tudur Jones, who admitted he spoke to the Glovers' management team after leaving Swansea.
The 25 year old said those discussions have played an important role in bringing him to Somerset.
"The link that I have got is with playing with Darren Way at Swansea City, and I seem to remember that towards the end of my last season a Swansea I was in the Welsh squad.
"I was not in the Swans' squad for what ever reason on a Wednesday night so I drove down to Yeovil to see Darren.
"I think that it was that first day that he had walked after his accident and on that day the gaffer (Skiverton) was with Darren as well, so we were just talking about what my plans were.
"Luckily for me I got the move to Norwich, but things just did not work out and from that day I knew that Yeovil would have had an interest in me, and it just built from there really."
As with his previous loan spell, Tudur Jones will be joined by Wales compatriot former Swansea team-mate Shaun MacDonald at Yeovil.
The versatile Swans' midfielder signed his third temporary agreement with the Glovers last month, but has since been on Wales Under-21 duty.
MacDonald is expected to be available for Saturday's League One match with Tranmere Rovers and Tudur Jones backed him for more success at Yeovil.
Tudur Jones said: "I have been in touch with Shaun. Obviously I have not seen him, but it will be nice.
"I think that last year was good for him when I came in. He had obviously been here since the start for the season. It was difficult for a lad like Shaun.
"It was the first time that he had moved away from home. I think that it was February time that I signed and I think that it was a good boost to him to see a familiar face from before.
"By all accounts he had a real good season here. So with him coming in within the next week, I think that will be a good addition to the squad.
"He has good quality and hopefully he can show that on the pitch.
"From a personal point of view, Shaun is coming, but if he was not coming then fine. It is just about getting on with things really. But it will be nice to see him, and on the pitch it will be a big boost to the club."
Despite turning professional in 2005, Tudur Jones has made barely 50 senior appearances, with injury hampering his availability.
The Welsh speaker said regular football influenced his decision to return to football and hoped he would bring experience to the team.
"I did not turn pro until I was 21, so I was late getting into the game," he said. "I have had a lot of injuries so have not played as many games as I would have liked, but I have seen quite a lot in the game.
"It is not just about playing or not, it is all about where you are, which club you are at and things like that.
"Hopefully I can bring a bit of experience to share and take it out on onto the pitch. Maybe that is something that the team and the club need out there."
