Darren Way aiming to repay Yeovil Town boss Skiverton
AFTER signing off as a player for Yeovil Town, Darren Way has vowed to give manager Terry Skiverton 100 per cent commitment as a technical coach.
The former midfielder pulled on the green and white hoops for one last time on Saturday as Manchester United visited Huish Park for his benefit game.
Way, affectionately known as Weasel by fans, came on as an 89th minute substitute as Yeovil beat their youthful opposition 3-2.
The 30-year-old announced his retirement earlier this year, after failing to overcome injuries sustained in a two-vehicle collision near Yeovil in December 2008.
He said: "The gaffer (Skiverton) has been there for me every day as a player, as a friend and as a manager. It is a new chapter in my life and I would like to repay him with my 100 per cent commitment to help him move onwards and upwards in his management career."
Skiverton also made a late appearance in the game. Rodrigo Possebon handed United the lead before Yeovil hit back with three goals, through Jean Paul Kalala, Sam Williams and Adam Virgo, early in the second period.
United substitute Robert Brady set up a tense finale.
Way said: "When I was sat there watching some of those Man Utd players in the first half, you think they have got bright futures ahead of them because some of their play was phenomenal.
"It was a great test for our lads and I thought they put on a great show for the supporters coming in, paying money to watch the game."
