TEENAGERS who posted videos online of themselves walking across the hazardous Brean mudflats have been told by coastguards "your lives are in your hands".

Footage of about 30 seconds has appeared on YouTube which shows six young people crossing the mudflats to the rocks at Brean Down.

As the group rest and wipe the thick mud from their trainers the cameraman says: "Right guys, we made it to Brean all right then."

This is followed by: "Where are we guys." and they say "Brean."

One viewer's comment about a week ago said: "You're mad doing that, there's quicksand all around there as my little brother knows, nutters! Be careful."

The film was posted on the website by someone called XxXJackBrettXxX, he replies to the comment by saying: "Doing it again now in 10 minutes."

It has been viewed more than 170 times.

Burnham coastguard station officer Steve Bird sends a clear message to the teenagers: "The area they were walking is near the River Axe estuary and is particularly dangerous – the mud is very hazardous.

"Their lives are in their own hands as they could become trapped.

"Nobody should be doing this and if anyone sees this happening they should call the coastguard."
