I think a timely reminder of the dangers of getting too close to swans at this time of year is in order.

They are extremely aggressive and possessive of their partners and offspring, and will literally charge you if they feel threatened.

I took this picture on the Shapwick levels where a swan family was going about its business.

The cob spied me with my camera, and I was obviously getting just a bit too close for his liking.

The result was that I got some great action shots.

In fact, I'm using this as an excuse to air what I think is a great picture, one of a series I shot during the charge.
