Warning as 80% of drivers break speed 30mph limit on Yeovil road
Motorists in Yeovil have been urged to slow down after figures showed a substantial number speeders on one stretch of road in the town.
More than 70 cars were recorded travelling at over 50mph along Lyde Road over an eight-day period in November.
The road is restricted to 30mph.
The figures also show that 80 per cent of drivers broke the speed limit in the area during the same period.

Councillor Jon Gleeson, who represents the area, said: “This is downright reckless and irresponsible. We must look immediately to tackle the problem and crack down on drivers who choose to speed in a built up area such as this.
“I would urge speeding motorists to think about cutting down their speed. Getting to your destination a minute or two later makes more sense than risking knocking someone down.”
Almost 20,000 vehicles were recorded by a Speed Indicator Device placed on the road.
