Volunteers wanted to clear overgrown track
Do you walk, exercise your dog, cycle or ride your horse along the restricted byway track beside the cricket ground in West Shepton?
If so, Mendip Bridleways and Byways Association is looking for volunteer helpers to join a working party on the morning of Saturday, February 21, to cut back encroaching vegetation before the wild birds start nesting in March.
The entrance to the restricted byway in Shepton Mallet is below the old railway bridge on the B3136 on the approach to West Shepton and runs north alongside the cricket ground to the ridge road.
Low overhanging tree branches are making it difficult for horse riders and a section of stone wall has collapsed, partially blocking the track.
Anyone who uses this track and feels able to spare a few hours to help clear away the vegetation is welcome to join in.
Members of the MBBA will meet at 9am on the Saturday by the entrance below the railway bridge on the B3136.
Please call 01749 890 582 for further details.

“Almost every single byway we used to use is now overgrown and impassible on foot. CC didnt want to know when we voulenteered to help clear them! We have offered lots of times... They will probably be left to be lost all over again... NERC was a vindictive and nasty law and the antis gloat about how they got their friends to change the law... WHO WILL BE NEXT?”

But that's what Lordly Landowners wanted, they figured no bikes, no Landrovers = very soon No use at all, more privacy keep the walking unwashed out!”

“Good old NERC act. Obviously before this act 4x4s and bikes kept the vegetation back. Now they're banned from the route, nature is reclaiming it. Soon it'll be lost to all users. Hope the Rambliars are happy”
