Danny Greaves was kept busy in the Clevedon goal early on but Merthyr had only one goal to show for their domination, a header from Andrew Thomas.
On the half-hour, Clevedon were back in the game when a shot into the box was put into his own net by Thomas.
In the second half, Merthyr surged forward again, Chris Hartland scoring a superb goal.
Jamie Rewbury put Merthyr on level terms again in the 74th minute, but it was left to Paul Michael to get Clevedon's winner seven minutes from the end.
It was the first time since November that Clevedon have scored three goals in a league match and leaves the Seasiders in 19th place in the Zamaretto Premier Division, one place and one point from safety, but having played more games than the teams around them.
STOURBRIDGE 4 CLEVEDON TOWN 1
TWO goals in the opening six minutes effectively ended Clevedon's hope of a result at Stourbridge.
Nathan Bennett headed the hosts ahead in the third minute and Ryan Rowe slotted in the second just three minutes later.
However, Clevedon ensured that no further damage was done prior to the interval and came out fighting in the second half.
Nana Baah headed against the crossbar three minutes after the break and Chris Hartland pulled a goal back with a good shot one minute later.
However, Town goalkeeper Danny Greaves missed a cross on the hour to allow Rowe to make it 3-1 and shortly afterwards Pete Bellingham netted a fourth for Stoubridge.
On Saturday, Clevedon host Leamington, before a crunch match at home to fellow strugglers Swindon Supermarine on Tuesday night.
