Vital points in relagation battle
Cranmore 188-6 lost to Kilve 239-6 by 51 runs
With a 10-man side missing many key players, Cranmore's expectations were low as they made the long trek to Kilve.
However, they put up a spirited fight and were rewarded with a useful smattering of points for their battle against relegation.
Batting first, Kilve made steady progress, with runs from S Lloyd (36), T Payne (34), A Ruck (43) and W Munro (44). Cranmore's bowlers worked hard, with wickets for Steve Allen (1-31), Matt Garner (2-55) and Richard Miles (2-66).
Youngsters Cameron Allen (0-26) and Jack Ford (1-48) also bowled well, showing great promise for the future.
Despite Cranmore's best efforts, however, quick runs at the end of the innings from C Clements (39no) took Kilve to a useful total of 240-6.
In reply, the Cranmore innings got off to a shaky start, with openers James Stone (2) and Dave Monk (5) falling cheaply to Pedwell (3-48).
Nigel Alway (13) and Darren Butt (17) stabilised things, and Steve Allen (40) also scored useful runs. Cranmore, however, were never really in the chase as Clements (1-46) and Manchip (2-36) prevented the batsmen from building on good starts.
With 120 runs needed off the last 10 overs, the game was gone, but a late flurry of runs from Richard Miles (20no) and the big-hitting Matt Garner (38no) helped boost Cranmore morale, taking the total to 188-6 at the close.
Cranmore 161-8 lost to Compton Dundon 165-5 by 5 wickets
Sunday saw Cranmore visiting the rural idyll that is Compton Dundon cricket ground, resplendent in late summer sunshine.
Batting first, Mike Pang (35) got the innings off to a rapid start for Cranmore, repeatedly dispatching the ball into a nearby ditch, until he was caught off the bowling of S Jones (1-23) in the 11th over with the score on 46.
More sedate stuff from Anthony Pang (25) and Sam Laing (34) helped keep the Cranmore score ticking over, as did further runs from the in-form Matt Garner (28).
Trevis (2-25) and Kearle (1-10) took wickets for Compton Dundon, but it was G Lyndsay (4-10) who walked away with the pick of the figures after a late flurry of wickets, containing Cranmore to a slightly under-par 161-8.
In reply, Compton got off to a good start, with D Trevis (41) and P Lyndsay (46) putting on 88 for the first wicket. The pace of Mike Pang (2-48) and spin of Nigel Alway (1-20) made inroads for Cranmore, however, it was not enough to check Compton's progress.
An excellent run out from Cameron Allen, and a slightly less excellent bowled from Richie Stone (1-15), briefly threatened a collapse, but in the end T Weech (20no) and S Jones (8no) comfortably saw Compton Dundon home in the 34th over.
