Villages fear knock-on effect from Crewkerne gas works road closures
Residents in Misterton fear impending major roadworks in Crewkerne could have a knock-on effect on traffic in surrounding villages.
East Street in Crewkerne will be closed for six weeks at the beginning of the new year, when a £170,000 project to replace a 646-metre stretch of gas main is undertaken.

The work is due to start on Monday, January 21, and last 10 weeks.
East Street will be closed temporarily for more than half the duration, between Monday, January 21, and Friday, March 1.

Paul Bradly of Misterton said: "There is a real concern locally that much more traffic will be coming through Misterton, as well as North Perrott and Haselbury Plucknett as traffic is diverted from Crewkerne.
"The roads through these places are all narrow and winding. I don't think they will be able to cope."
Mr Bradly's wife Diane is vice-chairman of Misterton Parish Council.
She said: "I can't bear the thought of it, we are going to get all the traffic before it comes to Crewkerne if it is coming from the Yeovil direction. We will get the lot.
"I'm not sure if people realise how bad this could be for the smaller villages.
"In Misterton there is a real fear that the cars which park by the sides of the road could be made to move in order to accommodate a greater traffic flow.
"But residents have nowhere else to park. It will be interesting to see how this goes, to say the least."
A public information event about the works is being organised by Wales and West Utilities in the new year. It will be held in Victoria Hall, Market Street, on Wednesday, January 9, from 3pm until 6pm.
