Village wins speed limit
Road safety campaigners in Camerton are rejoicing after Bath and North East Somerset Council announced a reduction in the speed limit through the village will be introduced.
Work will soon start to put up 20mph road signs outside the village primary school. There will also be improvements to the footpaths, road narrowing and give-way signs as part of the new safety measures.
Parish council chairwoman Glynis Tingay said: "We are delighted the changes are being made. We have been campaigning for many years to make improvements to make the area around the school safer."
Money for the work is coming from the Section 106 agreement made by the National Osteoporosis Society, which has developed its headquarters nearby.
Work to install the flashing advisory 20mph signs will start on Monday, June 29, with the rest of the work being undertaken during the school summer holidays.
The village already has a compulsory 30mph speed restriction in place.
Camerton headteacher Keith Ford: "The school welcomes the introduction of the advisory 20mph speed limit.
"We have worked alongside the parish council to ensure the children and residents of Camerton are safe."
