Village pub to provide school meals for Evercreech pupils
The dinner bell has a whole new meaning in a village where the pub has just started providing hot school lunches.
Evercreech Church of England Primary School, near Shepton Mallet, had to find another supplier when the existing contract ran out and, among other businesses, approached the Bell Inn.
Now the new school year has started landlord and landlady Lee and Abi Carlton have begun producing nourishing meals for 30 children, and plates have been cleared.
Lisa Amber, the school’s business manager said yesterday: “We are very excited about this, it’s a very positive thing for us.”

Mr Carlton said: “The school approached us and we are pleased to be doing this. “We produced samples of seven-eight dishes, and our home-made fish fingers were favourites.”
His daughter, Ruby five, is a pupil. Her mother said: “She clears her plate at home and she has done here too.”
