Priston's maypole dancers did their best to help chase away the May Day showers at the village's annual celebration.

A team of dancers made up of village youngsters showed off their skills as part of the entertainment at the event, which attracts visitors from neighbouring villages.

The Priston Jubilee Morris and the women's Somerset Morris group also proved popular with the crowds as they performed traditional dances to welcome in the month of May.

The event is one of the main fundraisers for the village hall.

Committee member Aylet Anderson said she was sure there would be nothing to grumble about once the final figure for the amount raised was in.

"So many people come to watch the Morris sides and maypole dancing as part of the tradition of May celebrations," she said.

"It is a family day for everyone to enjoy and despite the showers everyone seemed to be doing that.

"It was relaxed and enjoyable and no one was rushing off."
