Video of loutish Yeovil youngsters attracts 100,000 hits on YouTube

A video showing children as young as eight swearing and apparently threatening a pair of teenagers at a south Somerset leisure complex has been watched more than 100,000 times on the internet.

The clip, filmed by two teenagers on Saturday and posted on the YouTube website, appears to show them being confronted by a group of young children in Yeovil in broad daylight.

Avon and Somerset Police spokesman Martin Dunscombe said the force did not have a record of any complaints linked to the video but urged any victim of crime to come forward

The five minute film starts by showing the teenagers performing stunts on in-line skates around Newton Road and South Western Terrace before foul-mouthed children are seen to start hurling abuse at them.

When asked how old they are, one of the children replies: “I’m eight you f***ing t**t.”

The most shocking scenes take place near Yeo Leisure Park. One of the teenagers says into the camera: “No wonder old people are scared.”

The video cuts to the area in front of Frankie & Benny’s restaurant where the children follow the skaters to the Cineworld complex. One of the teenagers remarks: “Shall we go somewhere else where we won’t get hassled?”

The pair try to skate away but are chased and one says he is tripped to the ground and shoved.

More than 400 people have commented on the video since it was posted on the internet at the weekend. Many praise the teenagers for their restraint and condemn the apparent behaviour of the children.

After the Western Gazette showed Yeovil Town Councillor Jon Gleeson the video, he said: “I am completely horrified by what I have seen. With this video going viral all it does is to give Yeovil town a bad name.

“I am amazed children this young appeared to be allowed to be left unaccompanied in a busy town centre. Where on earth were the parents?

“I worry that with the cuts by the county council to youth services, events such as this could become more frequent, not less.

“But we cannot just blame antisocial behaviour on public spending cuts. I am sure the majority of parents who watch this video will be stunned by the language and the complete lack of respect that seems to be shown for other people.”
