The main road at Rockwell Green was turned into a river tonight after torrential rain battered Somerset for the second time in 24 hours.

Roadside drains at the village, just outside Wellington, overflowed and sent torrents of water down Exeter Road past the Barley Mow pub.

Emergency services were called out to barricade off the drains and divert the flow of the water, while also helping residents set up sand bags and other flood prevention measures.

Wellington was also badly hit by the storm, with two stretches of the A38 closed tonight at the junction with Ford Street and also at the Chelston roundabout.

In the town centre, Swains Lane was closed around the Cottage Inn pub after drains overflowed and flooded the street.

Rescue teams were also called to Improvement Place, where trees had been blown into telegraph poles, and began a clear-up operation that involved the removal of two poles.

See below for a video from the top of the hill at Rockwell Green tonight.

This video shows how the flood water is being diverted across the road and down a footpath, before flowing into the river.
