Heavy snow has caused chaos with rush hour traffic on the M5 motorway through Somerset this evening.

Snow started falling in the county at around 3pm this afternoon, with several centimetres settling in less than an hour.

The stretch of the M5 between junction 25 at Taunton and junction 27 at Tiverton in Devon was worst hit, with snow reducing traffic to one lane in both directions.

Icy conditions and low visibility combined to create some extremely hazardous driving conditions, and major tailbacks.
