VIDEO: Hex Factor: Witches go wild at Wookey Hole
TOO many witches cursed the video equipment of the Wells Journal when we tried to play back this ghastly video of what happened at Wookey Hole yesterday during the audition for a new witch.
We've managed to de-hex the camera after a 24-hour delay but be warned - this video contains:
A "man witch" who claimed Wookey Hole needed a transgender witch;
Possibly the worst magic act seen by a Harry Potter-look-a-like;
Cackles ranging from roof-raising to smokers' coughs;
A balloon animal-making witch from London;
A pram turned into a dragon;
A very strange high-pitched witch;
Two witches trying to seduce Gerry Cottle;
A scene-stealing Brummie witch who punctuated her song with fake vomiting.
Missed yesterday's result? Here's what happened:
THE sorting hat has been emptied, crones and spell hags auditioned, and the new Witch of Wookey Hole selected.
And despite alleged Eastern European interest, she’s a local.
Glastonbury costume maker Anna Dixon, 26, was fitted up for a new robe on Tuesday after beating off some 30 other witches in the Hex Factor.
Anna’s ditty put her into the top four against a magic conjuring witch, a singing witch, and a joking witch.
But caves’ boss Gerry Cottle and director Daniel Medley proved immune to the love potion and chose Anna for not being too over the top, among other reasons.
An ‘hex-static’ Anna said: “I can’t believe it. It’s so surreal. I’m trained as a costume maker for theatre but have done some chef-ing and waitressing. This is great.”
But there can be only one Witch of Wookey Hole. Sunny Van der Pas, 29, handed over her broomstick to Anna and said: “I’m very sad to be leaving but there comes a time when you have to let someone else take the reins, or the broomstick.
“Top tip for Anna is smiling and being nice and just enjoy the crazy ride that is being Witch of Wookey Hole.”
Sunny leaves the £50,000 (pro rata) job after two years to open a retro clothes shop in Devon.
She and her fellow judges sat through an hour of auditions, ranging from the good, the bad, and the just plain wrong.
