Travelling back in time at the Bishop's Palace
VISITORS to the Bishop's Palace in Wells last weekend were transported back in time to the 14th century with the arrival of the Medieval Combat Society re-enactment group.
This was the time of King Edward III and his son, Edward of Woodstock (the Black Prince), when England laid claim to the throne of France, when Chaucer wrote his Canterbury Tales, the start of the Hundred Years War and the onset of the Black Death.

The Medieval Combat Society, which was founded in 1970 and numbers more than 60 members of three generations, entertained visitors with displays of archery, combat, dancing and chivalric foot tournaments in their roles of lords, ladies, knights, nobles and squires.
