TWO trains have collided on a quarry rail line near Frome.

The incident, which happened close to Great Elm pond at about 5pm on Monday, involved a locomotive carrying stone and an empty train, which was entering the quarry.

Emergency crews at the scene said the driver of the incoming train was shaken, but no other injuries had been reported.

Both locomotives, owned by Hanson, were extensively damaged in the incident.

Fire crew commander Simon Carpenter said: "We got a call at 5.30pm and details were very vague. It came in as a derailment.

"At first, we thought personnel were injured but, on examination of the scene, we discovered there was no-one injured."

Fire crews have now secured the area and investigators are at the scene.
