Work has begun on replacing an old water main in Chard, Somerset.

Wessex Water said the work was needed to reduce the risk of interruptions to supplies in homes and businesses.

The water main, which runs below the A358 Furnham Road, has been prone to bursts which in the past has led to traffic disruption and loss of supply.

About 200m of pipe is to be replaced. A section of the road will be closed to traffic until Sunday, February 19.

Temporary traffic lights in Furnham Road will be used for two more weeks.
