A Weston College spokesperson said: “We can confirm that the young person attacked near to Weston College’s University Campus was a Weston College student, though based off-site as an apprentice linked to Bristol-based company.
"He had the presence of mind to come into the nearby university campus to seek help, and staff acted promptly and efficiently in dealing with him while contacting the emergency services. We believe his injuries are not life-threatening and we wish him a speedy recovery.
“Incidents like this are always shocking and we would advise anyone who saw the young man being attacked to contact the police immediately.”
Great Western Ambulance Service spokesman John Oliver said emergency calls were made at 1.53pm.
He said: “A paramedic and rapid response unit arrived on the scene at 2pm. They attended a man thought to be in his late teens with a penetrating trauma. He was fully conscious and breathing normally.”
Anyone with information about the incident should call 101.
