Teenager living in fear after Yeovil attack
A traumatised teenager has urged women to be on their guard after she was attacked by a man just yards from her Yeovil home.
Nicole Barry, 17, of Millbrook, off Horsey Lane, was walking home from her boyfriend’s house on Sunday night when she was assaulted by a man near the underground car park at Tesco, off Queensway, at around 10.45pm.
She said her attacker grabbed her from behind before trying to drag her to the ground. She only escaped after kicking the man in the groin. Now she suffers nightmares and has been unable to go anywhere alone, she said.
Miss Barry, who is a chef at Coopers Mill, said: “I was walking home from near Buckler’s Mead by the underground car park, towards West Hendford, when out of nowhere this bloke grabbed me from behind and pulled my coat. He pulled me down towards the floor and I smashed my face on the wall and scraped my face.

“I went to hit him but missed. Then he went to grab me again so I kicked him on the groin. He collapsed and I ran away. I looked back to see if he was following me but he was walking on as if nothing had happened.
“I was scared. I didn’t know what he could have done. He seemed under the influence of something.
“Lots of things were running through my head – is he going to hurt me? What could he do? I was in tears.
“I was shouting at him to get off and let me go.”
The former Westfield Academy student has been trying to come to terms with the attack.
She said: “It sounds silly but I went to Tesco with my mum and little sister on Monday night. My sister fell asleep in the car and I had to wake her up as I couldn’t sit there with her asleep. I don’t go anywhere without someone at the moment. It’s left me scared and really wary of everybody.
“I’m having nightmares, I see it in my sleep. He didn’t say anything or try to take my handbag.”
Miss Barry did not know her attacker and has warned people to be on their guard in case he strikes again.
She added: “I feel lucky but I want him caught. Even if he doesn’t get caught, I want to make other girls aware that there’s someone out there like that, to try and stop it happening again.
“I want to let people know that he hasn’t been caught and I want girls to be wary when they are out there. He may have managed to get away without doing anything to me but I fought back. What if someone can’t fight back? What will happen then?”
Officers are appealing for information to help with their inquiries. They would like to speak to a man described as white, in his late 30s, over 6ft tall and wearing a dark blue hooded style top.
