Two 15-year-old climbers had to be rescued on Sunday after becoming stuck 110ft up on a cliff at Uphill, near Weston-super-Mare.

Coastguards said the pair, one of whom was beginning to suffer from hypothermia, were well equipped and capable but had simply been unlucky when a rope and safety line became tangled, leaving one unable to move.

Coastguard Steve Bird reserved special praise for the climber on the clifftop who had clung on to the ropes for 45 minutes while he waited for help, stopping his friend from falling.
