Dings Crusaders U13s 0

Winscombe U13s 12

Missing players to injury and other commitments, the newer players in the squad took their chances with aplomb.

Dings possessed a sizeable pack, but Winscombe's technique prevailed and they managed to secure the bulk of the possession from the start.

Toby Sims was first to every tackle and Dings were unable to get the ball out of their half. However, in attack the visitors struggled to move the ball wide.

The first half ended scoreless, with Winscombe failing to capitalise on their possession. However, the second half began brightly for them, with the ball quickly finding Kieron Westcott, who scored his first try for the club.

Winscombe now began to surge forward, with much better wide movement of the ball. First Sam Chedzoy was unlucky to be brought down just short of the line and then Charlie David, in his first game, was equally unfortunate.

Two attempted breakouts by Dings were ended by solid tackles by first David Whitre and then Gareth Franklin, but it was not until near the end that Winscombe scored again when Sam Rees broke through to score. James Semple converted, shortly before the end of a competitive and enjoyable match.

Winscombe U15s 15

Frome U15s 3

Winscombe put aside their disappointment at being knocked out of the Somerset Cup by Bath the week before in beating Frome 15-3.

Winscombe played some good, open rugby, but occasional silly mistakes and poor decision making meant that they had to wait until midway through the first half before opening the scoring.

Matt Lloyd took the ball deep into the Frome half and when it was recycled, a flowing passing movement among the backs put Tom Day over in the opposite corner.

Good work by Sam Denham and Robbie Mackay then allowed Eddie Farmer to beat two players before crossing for the second. Winscombe conceded a penalty just before half time to bring the score to 10-3.

The second half was even, with Winscombe adding the only further score when Denham crossed following an excellent run.

This was a comfortable win against determined opposition, however, the home team know that they should have put more points on the board.

Wells under-12s

In previous encounters, Wells have always been defeated against Chew, so it was a surprise that from the kick-off, Matt S grounded the ball for the first try of the game.

Wells quickly followed this with another try when George drove through the defence to leave the Wells supporters delighted.

Chew forced their way back in to the game and managed to score twice before the break.

After the half-time talk, the early pressure was soaked up and George added two more tries. Result: Wells 20 Chew Valley 10.

Due to a large number of players travelling to Frome, Wells made seven changes from scrum-half to full-back.

After a shaky start it was George again who popped up with a try to give Wells the upper hand.

In the second half, Byron scored a try, but Frome scored next to set up an exciting last period of play.

The Wells defence stood firm and a big cheer went up when the referee blew the whistle. Result: Frome 5 Wells 10.
