By-election candidates stake their claim
A BUILDER and a teacher are going head-to-head in the Langport by-election next week.
Langport Town Council is holding an election for residents to decide between two candidates who have put themselves forward for the current vacancy.
Voters will have to chose between Garry Edmunds, of The Avenue, Huish Episcopi, and Stephen Jenkinson, of Newtown, Huish Episcopi.
Mr Edmunds has run local building company G S Edmunds Ltd for 25 years.

He said: "I feel that I know Langport very well and want to take part in helping to run the town council in an efficient and cost effective manner.
"I am not driven by political opinions but I do care what happens in Langport and to the people living here.
"I feel that I can bring a down-to-earth, realistic and common sense approach."
Mr Jenkinson is a former governor of Huish Episcopi Primary School and currently teaches at Strode College in Street.
He also headed the Newtown Says No campaign against plans for 36 homes off of Newtown Road.
He said he hopes to address issues such as transport, housing, education, health care, jobs, tourism, the environment and sustainability.
He said: "It is important to try to seek small-scale, realistic solutions to local challenges whenever possible.
"I am standing as an independent candidate with enthusiasm, integrity, a good sense of humour and a realistic view of the world.
"I am someone with experience to work on behalf of you and the whole town."
The election takes place next Thursday at the Ridgway Hall from 7am until 10pm.
