Taunton's Musgrove Park Hospital gets £600,000 for maternity ward
Musgrove Park Hospital has been awarded £600,000 to make improvements to its maternity unit.
The money will be used to improve the hospital's labour ward, which will benefit the more than 3,200 women who give birth at Musgrove each year.
Like much of the Musgrove Park Hospital estate, the maternity unit was built in the Second World War and was designed for war time care in the 1940s.
This award will allow improvements to be made to the birthing environment to bring the Labour Ward up to 21st century standards.

Work will include en suites bathrooms and modernising and upgrading the delivery rooms to create a relaxing and homely environment.
The full improvement scheme will cost in just over £1million and the hospital has committed significant funds on top of the £600,000.
David Allwright, Musgrove's director of corporate planning and performance said: "This funding will allow us to make substantial improvements to the Labour Ward which will improve privacy and dignity for women."
Patients, the National Childbirth Trust and the Council of Governors of Musgrove Park Hospital were all involved in deciding the priorities for the money, which was awarded by the Department of Health from a £25million fund to improve maternity units across the country.
Sarah Bridges, the hospital's clinical director for the women and children's directorate said: "Musgrove is committed to delivering the best possible start for women and their families.
"This much needed funding will allow us to create an environment that compliments the quality care provided by our staff and meets the expectations of the community we serve."
