Evo-Stik League Southern club Taunton Town will be using their new clubhouse for a match for the first time at tonight’s game against Yate Town at Wordsworth Drive (7.45pm).

The old clubhouse was badly damaged by fire 15 months ago and had to be pulled down.

The new building has been built on the same site and is part of the Somerset club’s plans to redevelop the ground rather than try and sell as was the intention some time ago.

Since the fire Taunton have operated with very little covered accommodation but day and night matches produced an almost barbecue atmosphere last season.

An insurance payout prevented the club from moving any quicker to replace the old clubhouse. Like the old building it has a skittles alley.

Rodney Marsh returns to Taunton’s side after a one-match ban for tonight’s match, but defenders Owen Irish and Rob Norris are suspended.

Taunton are looking to switch from Tuesdays to Wednesdays for evening home matches for the rest of the season. Tuesday is a big skittles night in the town and it is hoped the move will increase gates.

Bridgwater Town striker Olly Chamberlain has gone out on loan to Toolstation League club Wellington.

“Olly needs some games under his belt,” said Bridgwater’s joint boss Kevin Milsom.
