Taunton Deane council tax may be frozen for third year in a row
Council tax may be frozen in Taunton Deane for the third year in a row as part of a “budget for growth”, as well as more than £2 million of capital earmarked to help fund projects to boost the economy.
A further £11.9 million will go on new social housing and £7.7 million on maintaining and modernising council homes, if the budget is approved.
There will also be £2.4 million set aside from growth and regeneration funds. Types of scheme that are likely to benefit include flood prevention to enable the future growth of Taunton, improvement to transport infrastructure and investment in key sites in readiness for development for business, retail and leisure.
Other major projects include repairs to the Orchard multi-storey car park, the refurbishment of Station Road swimming pool in Taunton and the £1 million loan to Somerset County Cricket Club.
