DR WHO fan Jai Axe returned from a trip to a restaurant to find a Tardis had landed in the back garden of his Yeovil home.

But it had not travelled through time to arrive at the home in Westfield Grove – it arrived through the muscle power of six grown men who heaved it over the garden fence.

The life-size replica was built by seven-year-old Jai’s grandad, Mike Axe, of Southway Drive, using fence panels he had left over from a previous job.

A postman who saw Mike at work, provided the blue light to finish the job off after “Police Box” signs were fixed and a coat of blue paint was applied to resemble the genuine article.

After Mike, who worked at Westland before retirement, learned of Jai’s devotion to all things Dr Who he went online to find plans of the Tardis to base his design on.

He spent 48 hours spread over two weeks building it from scratch.

The detailed interior includes a control panel and a seat along with pictures of Dr Who paraphernalia and solar system maps decorating the walls.

While the Tardis was being manoeuvred into place Jai was taken out for a burger. On his return home all he could say was: “Awesome.”

He rushed straight into his new time machine wearing a Dr Who scarf and wielding his sonic screwdriver to begin his time travelling adventures.

Jai’s mum, Amie, was equally impressed by the structure and when she heard it was under construction said: “Wow! He’s going to love it.”

When she saw the finished product she said: “You would never know it was built from fence panels.”

Amie said Jai had been a huge fan of Dr Who since he began school and he watched every episode on television.
