STRATTON 1st XI 72 WRINGTON 1st XI 76-3

Wrington won by seven wickets

AFTER losing the toss and being asked to bowl, Wrington made a fine start, with Dan Tapson reducing the visitors for 40-4.

Only Luke Ingram (26) gave the Fosse some hope, but it was young Tapson's day as he picked up three Stratton batsman with out troubling the scorers.

With excellent fielding, especially from Luke Ford, returning from university, Stratton were in real trouble.

Mickey Edmunds, Ed Farrow and Oscar Wilmshurst all picked up a wicket and wicketkeeper Marshal Clements Junior took two catches.

Stratton were all out for 73 in the 21st over, with Tapson leading the team off having finished with figures of 7-2-22-6.

Skippers Glen Stansfield and Tim Ledbury decided to have the Wrington innings before tea and, after a quick turnaround, Ledbury was joined by Mike Clements (22 no) in the small run chase.

However, Wrington were reduced for 12-2, with Ledbury scoring three and Adam Whiting removed for a first-ball duck.

The tight lines of Tim Fussel took both wickets, but the introduction of Edmunds finished the match quickly, scoring 42 in 20 balls including six fours and a six, before he was well caught by C Candy.

It was left to Clements Junior to score the winning runs for the fourth time this season, with a powerful cut through point to bring up the required total and the bonus point in the 12th over.

Wrington travel to Saltford on Saturday.

Clevedon Cricket Club's annual sixes competition, organised by John Evans, is due to take place at the Dial Hill ground on Sunday.

If weather forces the postponement of the event, the reserve day of July 12 will be used.
