Swindon Town v Yeovil Town: Gary Johnson ready to lock horns with Paulo Di Canio
Gary Johnson takes Yeovil Town to Swindon tomorrow believing his team have a chance of competing with one of the strongest outfits in League One.
The Glovers head to Wiltshire after winning five of their last seven league outings. They are four points off the play-off spots, where Swindon sit in sixth place.
Huish Park boss Johnson backed Paolo Di Canio’s men to be challenging for promotion in May but also stated his confidence in his side’s weekend hopes.
“I think it will be a good football match,” he said. “Both teams will look to play a bit and they have got a strong team. It will be a decent game.
“I think they will be there or thereabouts and the players they bringing in will enhance their challenge.
“I am sure they budget will allow them to get more in and get a squad of 20 that’s challenging for the 11 (first team) places. You don’t always get that, you sometimes get players in your 20 that aren’t quite ready to make a difference.
“Credit to them for that but we have got a chance to do something that not many teams have done and get a result at Swindon’s County Ground.”
Johnson added he was also looking forward to going toe-to-toe with Di Canio for the first time. “I am going to enjoy it,” he said.
“I find him more entertaining that irritating and I enjoy watching him, which is always from the comfort of the armchair at home. Whether he becomes more irritating from the dugout we will have to wait and see.
“You can only applaud what he has done and you have to respect what he has done as a player, and what he has done for Swindon.
“Hopefully we can be there or thereabouts to give him a good match. It will be good if we can see the more frustrated Paolo Di Canio rather than the happier one.”
