Swindon Town v Yeovil Town: Byron Webster ready for Robins test

Yeovil Town enter the weekend well-versed in how to exploit Swindon Town’s weaknesses but aware they can rely only on their own performance to earn three points.

The Glovers travel to the County Ground today for their first of two successive clashes at npower League One promotion-chasers.

Three days after the relatively short trip to Wiltshire, Gary Johnson’s men hit the road again to visit Crawley Town in a bid to extend recent form that has taken them to second in the division’s form table.

Defender Byron Webster said the team had done extensive work both on and off the training pitch and were ready to do battle with Paolo Di Canio’s high-flyers.

He said: “The games are coming thick and fast. We have done a bit of work on them with a few DVDs and taken it out on to the training pitch. The hard yards have been put in.

“I think the gaffer (Johnson) brought stats that show we are amongst the highest scorers away from home so we can score goals ourselves. We look at their weaknesses and how we can break them down but it’s about ourselves, really.

“We always do work on the opposition whenever we play, whoever it is so the free midweek without a game has given us a rest. We had a day off on Wednesday but we always do the work on the opponents.”

Twenty-five-year-old Webster arrived at Huish Park in the summer, joining forces again with Johnson having worked with him at Northampton in the summer.

He has since made 20 appearances in the green and white hoops, currently partnering Fulham loanee Dan Burn ahead of experienced Richard Hinds.

Webster said Hinds’ presence kept the current centre half pairing on their toes and backed Burn to follow a similar career climb to former Glovers’ loanee Steven Caulker, who made his full England debut in Sweden on Wednesday.

“At the minute me and Dan have got the shirts,” said Webster. “Hindsy is always there and there is no sulking from anyone who is not playing.

“It is a good group of lads here. We are all there to help each other but it is dog eat dog and when you have got the shirt it is yours to make sure you keep it.”

On Burn he added: “He has got the talent, plus he is a northerner like me so that’s an extra bonus. He is a grounded person and a top draw lad. I am sure he has got a good support network and a good family so he won’t get carried away.

“The sky is the limit and I am sure if he puts in the work he’ll get the rewards.”

Webster ended a considerable goal drought in English football by scoring his first in seven-and-a-half years in the 2-1 success against Bury. The former Doncaster Rovers man doubled his tally for the campaign at Crewe Alexandra, striking the clash’s decisive blow.

However, Webster finding the scoresheet was not always at the forefront of his mind. “Goals are a benefit, it’s my job to keep them out at the other end,” he said.
