Frome Town 3 Sholing 2

Mark Cooper grabbed a last-minute winner to send Frome Town through to the semi-finals of the Red Insure Cup last Wednesday night.

The Robins twice came from behind to clinch victory in an open contest, which looked destined to go to extra-time when Cooper struck.

Sholing had played Havant & Waterlooville in the Hampshire Senior Cup the night before but showed no signs of tiredness and took the lead on 34minutes when Peter Castle’s lofted, spinning ball goalwards evaded keeper Darren Chitty.

A foul on Cooper led to Frome’s leveller eight minutes into the second half and Darren Jefferies’ inwinging free-kick was glanced into the corner of the net by Mike Perrott.

Barry Mason’s thunderous free-kick flew past the Frome wall and into the corner of the net to restore Sholing’s advantage but Dave Gilroy quickly equalised with possibly his first touch of the ball after replacing Lloyd Matthews.

The former Bath City man headed home after Dave Thompson flicked on Jefferies’ left-wing corner.

H&B Tyres man of the match Dean Evans created the winner with a fine piece of skill. He trapped the ball and pulled it back in one movement before rolling to Cooper, who finished into an empty net.
