It has been an outstanding year for A-level results at Sexey's School, Bruton, with 57 per cent of students achieving A and B grades and an average Ucas point score of 360.

Head teacher Raymond McGovern said: "We are delighted by this year's results, which are a reflection of the hard work and determination of the students and staff. The results will mean, despite recent concern about the pressure for university places, most students will be able to progress on to their first choice university. The introduction of the new A* grade has also brought an interesting addition to the picture. At Sexey's almost eight per cent of students achieved the 'starred grade'.

Particular highlights at Sexey's this year were Natalie Wellings who achieved straight A* in her three A-levels: English, psychology and biology.

Natalie has a place at Southampton to study English and philosophy. Will Foers will be going on to study medicine at UCL having achieved two A*s in Maths and History and two As in chemistry and biology. Bruton girl, Hazel Cusden-Ross, also achieved two of the coveted 'starred' A grades in Art and History, along with an A in Drama.

Tom Dymond-Andrews, Caitlin Maggs and Russell Chan achieved As in all three of their A-levels, including one of the new starred grades.
