Cheddar 291-2 beat Frome 160 all out by 131 runs

The wedding on Saturday of one of Cheddar's finest clubmen, Jeremy Burstow, meant that several key first-team members were missing, and how Frome must have regretted being unable to accommodate the match on another occasion as Cheddar scored a massive and comprehensive victory.

The likes of Dave and Ben Stacey, Paul Brice and Adam Crummy stepped up from the second team and did not disappoint as the team, skippered by Pip Nicholls, performed superbly.

Nicholls won the toss and elected to bat, with Aussie Luke Hunter and Dave Stacey opening up. The pair put together an excellent partnership of 96 with a combination of well-run singles and numerous brutal boundaries as the home attack failed to find any sort of rhythm.

Stacey reached his maiden first-team 50, which included nine boundaries, before he fell for a fine 51. Hunter was joined by Mike Sims, who began cautiously, but then opened his shoulders to crack a rapid 47 before becoming Frome's only other wicket as the score reached 170.

Steve Churches strode to the wicket to continue inflicting the damage to all bowling figures. Churches smashed his way to 51 off just 31 balls, with four fours and four sixes as he and Hunter put on a remarkable unbroken stand of 121.

Hunter moved serenely to his first century for his adopted club and was still there at tea with 128 runs to his name. His momentous innings came from just 105 balls and contained 11 boundaries and a six.

After tea, Cheddar's acting skipper had the luxury of a huge total to bowl at, but was also wary that his bowling options were mainly young and relatively inexperienced.

Nicholls (2-27) opened with himself and Matty Loughlin (3-49). It was Loughlin who did the early damage and, with young Adam Willis (2-24) coming on as first change to remove the dangerous Sanger (37), Frome collapsed to 84-5.

Adam Crummy (1-30) was introduced to the attack and claimed his first senior wicket when he bowled C Dredge for 17. Dave Stacey (2-25) joined the fun with a couple of wickets to cap a wonderful all-round performance.

With Nicholls returning to mop up the tail, Cheddar had got themselves a superb victory to make it five wins in six games as they continue to climb the league table.
