Street man charged over child and animal sex images
A STREET man has appeared in court charged with downloading child pornography and possessing hundreds of photographs and movies of extreme pornography involving animals.
Basil Al-Mudalal, aged 59, of Silver Road, appeared in the dock before Somerset Magistrates sitting at Yeovil.
He was charged with 14 counts of making an indecent photograph of a child at Street on various dates between September 22, 2008, and November 21, 2012.
He was also alleged to have been in possession of 200 prohibited images and four prohibited movies of children.
The defendant was further charged with possessing 62 extreme pornographic images and 80 extreme pornographic movie files portraying a person performing an act of sexual intercourse with live animals which was grossly offensive, disgusting or of an obscene character.
Prosecutor Christine Hart said that the charges involved more than 500 images and 500 movies which were in the most serious categories of 4 and 5 in relation to pornographic material.
Al-Mudalal did not enter pleas to any of the allegations and the magistrates refused to accept jurisdiction saying the case was so serious that he must stand trial at Taunton Crown Court.
They adjourned the case until Monday, November 11, when the defendant must attend a preliminary hearing at Taunton.
Until then he was released on bail with conditions that he must not own, possess or use any item capable of accessing the internet and must not have any unsupervised contact with any person under the age of 16.
